For over 30 years, as an ICU physical therapist, I’ve witnessed firsthand how critical early movement is for recovery. Yet, many patients recovering from neurological conditions, major surgeries, or critical illness are simply too weak to stand or even sit up safely. They need a way to begin rebuilding strength before they can get out of bed.
That challenge sparked an idea:
What if there was a safe, low-profile leg press designed specifically for use in bed? Something light enough to carry anywhere, yet strong enough to provide meaningful resistance training?
From Concept to Creation
Turning that idea into reality wasn’t easy. I had to step far outside my comfort zone — learning how to use CAD design software, finding the right manufacturing partner, and refining countless prototypes to ensure it worked safely for even the most delicate patients.
The goal was clear:

Perfecting the Design
After many iterations and real-world testing, the MOVAO Mini was born — a 9-pound, portable in-bed leg press capable of up to 65 lbs of progressive resistance. Every element serves a purpose: the resistance bands mimic natural leg movement, the low base protects skin integrity, and the compact size makes it easy to store or transport anywhere.
